(EN) How to bathe your baby safely, comfortably, and soothingly

Special Moments for Mom and Baby

Bathing is often a fun time for babies. Not only is it a way to cleanse the body, but it is also a relaxing activity. However, for newborns up to a few months old, bathing is not just about cleanliness, it's also about safety, comfort and a touch of affection from parents.

Here's a complete guide on how to bathe your baby properly to make the experience a relaxing and safe routine every day.

1. Choose the right bath time

Make sure the baby is calm, not hungry, and not too sleepy when bathed. The best time is usually in the morning or evening before bedtime, depending on the baby's comfort and the family's routine.

2. Pay attention to the water temperature and room temperature when bathing

Use warm water with a temperature between 36-38°C. Avoid water that is too hot or too cold to maintain the baby's natural skin and avoid discomfort in the baby. Also pay attention to the room temperature, make sure the room is not too cold and there is no wind blowing directly so that the baby stays warm during the bathing process.

3. Use special products for baby bathing

Babies have very sensitive skin, so the soap and shampoo used should have the following criteria:

  • Formulated with a special gentle formula for babies

  • Free of synthetic fragrances or colors

  • pH balanced and hypoallergenic

  • Choose products that can simultaneously nourish and maintain the natural moisture and balance of baby's skin

4. Comfortable baby bathing technique

For babies who cannot sit up yet, it is recommended to :

  • Use a special baby bathtub or washcloth for sponge baths.

  • Support the head and neck with one hand, use the other hand to wash the body

  • Cleanse from the face, neck, body, then downwards.

For babies who can already sit up, it is recommended to :

  • Make sure to sit steadily, never leave the baby alone

  • Wash the body gently, especially in folded areas such as the neck, armpits, thighs, and behind the ears

5. Bath duration should be 5-10 minutes

Babies do not need to bathe for too long. A short bath of 5-10 minutes is enough to cleanse the body without making the skin lose its natural moisture.

6. Gently dry the baby's body and do not rub it.

After bathing, dry the baby's body with a soft towel by patting gently. Once the skin is slightly dry, apply a special baby moisturizer to maintain moisture and prevent the baby's skin from becoming dry or irritated.

Bathing a baby is not just about cleaning the body, but also creating a sense of security and comfort for the baby. With the right technique, appropriate products, and a supportive atmosphere, bathing can be a fun moment that strengthens the bond between parents and baby. If your baby shows signs of discomfort during bathing, such as persistent crying, reddened skin, or excessive dryness, you should consult a pediatrician or medical personnel for proper treatment.
